Barely one minute away from the Ayer Keroh Interchange of the Malaysia North South Highway. 90 minutes from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and barely 20 minutes from Malacca town is an insanely  intriguingly ridiculous resort made out of pine logs. (What in the world would possess someone to build pine logs in Malaysia?)

Philea Resort & Spa is claimed to be Asia’s largest log resort, is made possible with the RM140 million investment by timber group Sanbumi Holdings Bhd. (Ahh, the log cabin is starting to make a little sense now, just a little). And this is their maiden venture in the hospitality management industry… and it shows. The fitness room aka gym has got flies and dead insects on the floor. The rooms look like they got furnished by Martha Stewart………..’s grandmother. 

But you’ve got to give them props for keeping up with the theme. There are 180 Pavilion Villas and 19 Philea Suites. All furnished like they came out of a holiday home in Vermont. Or winter holiday cabin in Aspen. It’s not to say they aren’t impressive. They are, really. Just that these log cabins look a bit out of place and they smell really funky inside. Kinda like wet ropes. Or gunny sack. It’s a really refreshing scent, compared to say, ginger flower, vanilla or white musk air fragrance. Try it for RM400 a night! And see if you like it. 

If you stay here there’s pretty little to do but sit around and stare at wood. Lie next to wood… Or sit on wood. ;)
